Shandong
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Lunan Drum, also known as "Pitan Drum", belongs to the Yangmen School of the Haozu Huashan School. It is said that it was introduced to Shandong and other places during the Northern Song Dynasty, and is mainly popular in the vast villages and towns south of Tai'an and north of the Huaihe River. The singing form is mostly a single sitting singing, and the singing style absorbs the characteristics of Lunan local opera. In terms of singing, there are two schools: the "lying voice" with a strong tone and the "standing voice" with a soft tone. There is no string accompaniment during the singing. The actor holds the drumstick in the right hand and the mandarin duck board in the left hand to beat the rhythm. The drum beats include the "Phoenix 0 Head" used at the beginning, the "Long Flowing Water", "Reverse Rolling Curtain" used in the singing, and the board beat "Pearl String". The tune is simple and easy to understand. In the late 1950s, the performance form was reformed to a combination of sitting and standing singing, and the incidental performance of character movements was added. The singing style belongs to the banqiang style, which is generally divided into the first ban, the second ban, the third ban, the quick ban and other styles. The singing style is rough and bold, full of the spirit of Shandong men. Most of the lyrics use the dialect and colloquialisms of southern Shandong. The opening tune is the first ban or the second ban similar to the first ban. The speed is slow, the tail sound is long, the board starts and the board falls, the words are pronounced fiercely, the words are pronounced truthfully, the sound is heavy, the words are dense and the sound is short, and the pause sound is used well. The melody is like speaking and singing, and it is natural and smooth. The southern Shandong drum mostly uses the golden tune, pays attention to the rhyme, drags the tune and sends the rhyme, and the singing style is smooth and bold. It is divided into three types: quick ban, slow ban and flat four-tone. The quick ban is mainly composed of seven-character sentences and ten-character sentences, and the four-tone seven-character sentences and ten-character sentences are used at the same time. The quick ban is used at the climax. The narration of the drum is also divided into two parts. One is speech, that is, narration with performance; the other is praise, called Guankou, that is, white rhyme. Lunan Drum is an excellent form of folk art in Shandong. It has an important influence on the emergence of Shandong Kuaishu. It is a reflection of the agricultural culture and ecology, reflecting the rich cultural and historical information and life interest of southern Shandong and northern Jiangsu. It has a high value of folklore and art research. Its simple performance form has greatly enriched the spiritual and cultural life of the local people. In 2020, Lunan Drum was included in the sixth batch of representative projects of Linyi's municipal intangible cultural heritage. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
