The royal hunting ground of the Qing Dynasty, Mulan Paddock, is located in the northeast of Hebei Province (Weichang Manchu and Mongolian Autonomous County, Chengde City), bordering the Inner Mongolia grassland. It has been a grassland with abundant water and grass and thriving animals since ancient times. The "Thousand Miles of Pine Forest" was once the hunting ground of the Liao Emperor, and the "Mulan Paddock" was the place where the Qing Emperors held the "Mulan Autumn Hunt". In 1681, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty opened up a hunting ground of more than 10,000 square kilometers here to train the army. In the first half of the Qing Dynasty, the emperor would lead the princes, ministers, and elite soldiers of the Eight Banners to hunt here every year, which was known as the "Mulan Autumn Hunt". In the more than 140 years from Kangxi to Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, the Mulan Autumn Hunt was held here 105 times.

Philosophy related to the heritage

Eastern philosophy and Western philosophy often show completely different perspectives and depths when looking at natural landscapes. Take Mulan Paddock as an example. This scenic spot with beautiful natural scenery and profound historical heritage can be interpreted in different ways from the two philosophical systems. From the perspective of Eastern philosophy, the natural beauty of Mulan Paddock is consistent with the Taoist idea of "harmony between man and nature". Taoism believes that man and nature should coexist harmoniously and pursue inner peace and harmonious unity with nature. The vast grasslands, continuous mountains and clear lakes of Mulan Paddock all reflect the primitive power and tranquil beauty of nature. Here, people can experience close contact with nature and feel the philosophical concept of "ruling by doing nothing", that is, in the embrace of nature, the soul can be purified and reach a state of transcendence. At the same time, the Confucian "the benevolent enjoy mountains, the wise enjoy water" is also reflected here. The mountains and rivers not only nourish the body, but also nourish the spirit, allowing people to cultivate benevolence and wisdom under the influence of nature. From the perspective of Western philosophy, Mulan Paddock can be interpreted as the embodiment of the "sublime" and "beauty" in Kant's aesthetics. Kant believes that the "beauty" of nature is formal harmony and order, while the "sublime" is the awe and shock of the power of nature. The magnificent scenery of Mulan Paddock, such as the vast grasslands and towering mountains, not only shows the "beauty" of nature, but also inspires people to be in awe of the "sublime" power of nature. This experience allows individuals to feel their own insignificance in front of nature, and at the same time inspires deep thinking about life and nature, reflecting the combination of rational exploration of nature and emotional experience in Western philosophy. Whether it is the "unity of man and nature" and "benevolence, wisdom and mountains and rivers" in Eastern philosophy, or the "beauty" and "sublime" in Western philosophy, Mulan Paddock, with its unique natural landscape, provides people with a philosophical space to think about life, nature and the universe. Here, tourists from different cultural backgrounds can find an opportunity to dialogue with their own hearts and experience a profound perception beyond daily life.
