Dragon Drum

🎧  Listen to Introduction

Originated in the Ming Dynasty, it radiates to the western region with Wangcun Town, Qian County as the center. It is a unique folk drum dance that combines dance and drum music. It is performed by dozens or even hundreds of people at the same time. The performers wear golden crowns, ancient costumes, black boots, masks, gongs and drums, and blow horse trumpets. They can change into dozens of formations such as "plum blossom", "crescent moon" and "five stars" while playing and dancing, interpreting the beauty of the brave men in Guanzhong and the majestic momentum of Chinese drum culture. "Jiaolong Drum" has no script music score. Its tunes, dances, drum beats, performance techniques, etc. are all passed down by the memory and oral transmission of folk artists. Due to wars, famines, disasters and other reasons, it has been lost and recovered many times. Since the reform and opening up, "Jiaolong Drum" has been hard excavated and repeatedly sorted out, and it has become active among the people again, attracting the attention of the cultural and art circles. In recent years, due to the death of the old generation of old drummers and trumpeters with unique skills, "Jiaolong Drum" is facing the loss again. To this end, the Qian County government recently hired music theory experts to rescue and organize the music score, and invested a lot of money to purchase equipment to set up five professional performance teams in the county. Director Qi of the Qian County Cultural Center introduced that the "Jiaolong Drum" will strive for more opportunities to participate in large-scale performances to increase its popularity and make it a Chinese and even international cultural brand like the "Ansai Waist Drum".
