🎧  Listen to Introduction

The repatriation drum can be divided into flower repatriation drum (civil repatriation drum), martial repatriation drum, and ugly repatriation drum. It was originally a military song and dance in the Northern Song Dynasty. Volume 7 of "Continuation of Mo Ke Hui Xi" records: "When Prince Chun first pacified Xihe, the border was peaceful. In his spare time from military lectures, he taught the soldiers to perform repatriation drum drama, which became popular in the world in a few years." According to historical records, most of the soldiers who participated in the battle of Xizhou were from Hedong. Most of today's Shanxi belonged to Hedong Road at that time, which was one of the earliest areas where repatriation drum was introduced. The Wu repatriation drum in Yangquan area is a dance accompanied by a set of gongs and drums, which is divided into upper three roads and lower three roads; it was originally closely related to temple fairs, welcoming guards of honor and folk sacrifices. The drum team consists of 21 people, holding drums, cymbals, cloud gongs, and small cymbals respectively, dancing and playing at the same time. The drum beats are vigorous, the dance postures are simple, and the patterns of the repatriation method are ingenious. The Wu repatriation drum is mainly popular in the southeast of Pingding County. The Chouzhaigu, which was derived from the Wuzhaigu, was once popular in the Pingding Chengguan area. It was still performed during the Republic of China, but has been lost today. The Wenzhaigu is a type of dance that involves singing and dancing. In the early performances, there were Huadan and Chouju. It absorbed the spoken and singing elements of Huagu Opera and Yangko. Each part is a song, and it is repeated in the order of dancing, speaking, and singing. It is similar to gong and drum singing, but different from it. It is popular in the suburbs and urban areas of Yangquan City, the Chengguan area of Pingding County, and the southern township of Yu County. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
