Shannan Changguo Zhuo Dance is a waist drum dance that originated in the Dabu (now Jiacha) area. According to legend, in the middle of the eighth century AD, the 37th Tibetan King Trisong Detsen, with the assistance of Buddhist masters such as Padmasambhava, built the first temple in Tibet, Samye Monastery, on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River. The walls that the craftsmen worked hard to build during the day were destroyed by demons at night. In order to confuse the gods and ghosts, Master Padmasambhava invited the seven brothers of Zhuoba (actors of Zhuo dance) from the Dabu area to dance Zhuo dance to suppress the demons. Since then, Zhuo dance has become popular in Shannan. Most villages in Shannan have Zhuo dance teams, and later this dance form gradually spread to other areas. This shows that Shannan Changguo Zhuo Dance has a history of at least 1,300 years. The waist drum used in Zhuo dance has two drum belts tied to the drum, one tied around the waist of the performer, and the other tied around the root of the performer's thigh, fixing the round drum vertically on the left waist. The traditional formation during the performance is basically a circle, and the performers are divided into two categories: leading dancers (Are) and group dancers (Zhoba). The number of leading dancers in the entire performance team ranges from 2 to 6. They do not carry waist drums, and their main function is to remind people to change the order of movements and control the rhythm and speed. Their movements are rhythmic and their postures are basically the same as those of group dances, but they are less difficult. The leading dancers are all people who are familiar with the movements and sequence of the entire Zhuo dance and have a long performance experience. The group dancers beat the drums and dance to the rhythm of the drums. At the same time, the dance movements swing their long braids into "", "", and other shapes. The movements are rough and bold, vigorous and powerful, with a strong sense of rhythm and many changes. Zhuo dance consists of 18 sections: 1. Three-step drum beats; 2. Parrot; 3. Pure land; 4. Driving piles on the Padmasambhava rock; 5. Lion jumping; 6. Tiger-lion fight; 7. Chain trap; 8. Sandalwood fairy; 9. Cornerstone of Samye wall; 10. Lying on the ground with three strikes; 11. Beating drums; 12. Crow walking in Vajra steps; 13. King sitting on the throne; 14. Fortune door; 15. Subjects; 16. Worship and offering; 17. Elephant lying on its side; 18. Nine-step drum beats. Zhuo dance combines movements, rhythms, skills and rhythms. All aspects are coordinated and highly unified. It is difficult to see the ingenuity and has infinite charm. Recently, the preservation of Changguo Zhuo dance in Shannan is not optimistic among the people. We should make great efforts to effectively protect it to avoid loss.
