The Shangjinshan lion dance began in the late Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty and flourished during the Guangxu period. It has a history of more than 100 years. The lion head of the Shangjinshan lion dance has the word "king" on its nose. It is hairless and has no cubs. It is green and yellow. It looks like both a lion and a tiger, so it is called "tiger-headed Taishi lion" by the villagers. There are 28 snails on the helmets of the two lions, representing the 28 constellations; there are 12 bells on each lion head, representing the 12 zodiac signs or the 12 months. The clear and loud sound of the bells is different, symbolizing the prosperous atmosphere of the unity of heaven and man. The lion skin is different from the ordinary folk lion dance. It is made of green and yellow fine cotton cloth and white cloth, and a number of scales of southern cattle hair are sewn on the surface, making the appearance of the lion closer to nature. The accompanying instruments of the lion dance are two specially made copper urns. The organizing carrier of the Shangjinshan lion dance is the "Chengyuan Charity Association". When the lion dance is performed, the "Chengyuan Charity Association" is at the front. Then, four square flags with the four characters "Keep Away and Be Silence" were formed to warn people to make way for the ominous atmosphere. Then, four square flags with blue and yellow lion patterns were hung to indicate the four directions. Two specially made copper urns were blown to make earth-shaking sounds. The round urns represent the roundness of the sky and the squareness of the earth. With the accompaniment of the copper urns, the lions began to perform. The twelve copper bells on the lion's head and the roar of the copper urns were combined into one, combining hardness and softness, harmony and beauty. The two blue and yellow lions have unique performance routines, each leading -. The main dance moves are: four major sets, three steps, worshipping the gods and temples, and three bows. The actors have their own unique skills, such as: single wheel, valley, rolling, high table, bench, etc. Five sets of 67 dance moves have been excavated and sorted out. Shangjinshan Lion Dance fully reflects the artistic value of performance, the aesthetic value of props, the historical and cultural value of connotation, and the value of people's entertainment life. The Shangjinshan Lion Dance has experienced a century of ups and downs and has been passed down to this day. Due to the difficulty of the dance movements and the difficulty of learning, and the delicate and complicated process of making the lion helmet, it has brought great difficulties to its inheritance and development. At present, Miyun County is organizing forces to excavate and sort out the Shangjinshan Lion Dance, and has formulated a protection and inheritance plan, striving to ensure that this ancient art form can be inherited and developed. In June 2007, it was approved by the Beijing Municipal People's Government as the second batch of Beijing-level intangible cultural heritage projects.
