Shanggao Pai Zi Dance (the third provincial level) Pai Zi Dance is distributed in Doumen, Xintian, Tianxin of Tianxin Town, Shanggao County, Yichun City, Jiangxi Province, Yuanxin, Yangtian of Zhendu Township, etc. As for its origin, according to local old artists, it was introduced to our county from Hunan in the early Qing Dynasty, and has been passed down through generations, with a history of nearly 300 years. "Pai Zi Dance" was originally performed by eight people, and later developed to determine the number of performers by the number of characters, and up to 18 people can perform. Its dance movements are relatively simple and there are no strict regulations. The performers hold lanterns in both hands and swing up and down with the rhythm of the steps. It is easy to learn and perform, and can be used freely. "Pai Zi Dance" is a dance based on the shape of characters. The shape and shape are connected by the change of formation. The shape of characters is relatively strict and must follow a certain order and requirements. The order is to place the characters in order according to the height, medium and shortness of the performers, and the requirements are "fast, accurate and stable". "Fast" means that the characters must be placed quickly, "accurate" means that the position of each person's characters must be accurate, and "stable" means to keep the shape picture stable and complete. Only in this way can the characters be clearly seen. The characters of the "character dance" are determined by the occupation of the host. For example, farmers put "a bumper harvest" and "prosperous livestock"; businessmen put "a lot of money"; politicians put "peace in the world"; birthdays put "blessings as vast as the East Sea" and "longevity as great as the Southern Mountains" and so on. Each character is sung with a song, but no singing is done when dancing, and no dancing is done when singing. The singing is accompanied by erhu, flute, and suona, and the dancing is accompanied by percussion instruments. The atmosphere of the whole performance is up and down, which makes people feel unsatisfied after watching it. The "character dance" was originally performed on the night of August 15th during the lantern festival, and later it was gradually changed to be performed in the first month of the year. It starts from the second and third days of the first month of the year and ends at the Lantern Festival. Sometimes it is also performed during major festive events such as weddings and birthdays, and is very popular among local people.
