The Shiren Temple Fair in Shangrao (the third provincial level) is located in Shiren Village, Shiren Township, Shangrao County, Jiangxi Province. It was first built in the Jin Dynasty and expanded in the Tang Dynasty. During the Xuanhe period of the Song Dynasty (1119-1125), the emperor granted the "Eagle Guarding the Temple". In the 21st year of Jiaqing in the Ming Dynasty (1542 AD), Li Desheng was named "Xiji Hongdao Huguo Chongxing Zhenjun" and a Taoist temple was built. The number of Taoists living in the temple increased day by day, and the temple fair activities have had a great influence in the local area. On the first day of the ninth lunar month every year, according to convention, local people hold traditional temple fair activities to pray for peace, good weather, and a good harvest. The Shiren Temple Fair is a mass folk cultural activity, which usually lasts for ten days, starting from the first day of the ninth lunar month and ending on the tenth day. The activities are carried out according to strict procedures. Believers and tourists from all over the country gather in Shiren Temple to worship Buddha, Taoism, Confucianism and folk auspiciousness, pray for blessings and disasters, seek offspring, eliminate illness and pain, and seek peace. Temple fairs are divided into literary and martial fairs; literary fairs provide various voluntary activities for temple fairs and pilgrims, and martial fairs offer performances to the top of the temples, which are pleasant for the gods. In addition to puppet shows, stilt walking, performances by string classes, natural martial arts, and folk acrobatics, there are more porters, horsemen, and incense burners, who do not need to perform, as long as they travel with the team, so they are widely popular and participatory. The organization of temple fairs is completely spontaneous among the people, and there is a set of effective procedures from decision-making and execution to fund raising, use, and organization and mobilization of personnel. The direct participants of the Shiren Temple temple fair activities reach as many as 500 people each time, plus nearly a thousand security personnel. In addition, before the meeting, every household in the place where they pass must set up an incense table to welcome the Bodhisattva, or directly enter the temple to pray. There is also a big drama to watch in the evening. People in the surrounding villages and towns will also choose this time to visit relatives and friends, burn incense and worship gods, and watch big dramas. By then, the Shiren Ming and Qing Ancient Street will reach tens of thousands of people, even tens of thousands of people, which is very lively. The temple fair is held in the golden autumn season. In addition to praying for blessings and good weather, people also buy seeds, farm tools, and daily necessities for agricultural production and trading of daily necessities.
