Guangxi
🎧  Listen to Introduction

The Zhuang ethnic group's "Bai Nang Hai" can be traced back 900 years ago and is an extremely ancient folk song and dance program of the Zhuang ethnic group. The Bai Nang Hai program has been recognized as an "intangible cultural heritage" by the autonomous region and is currently applying for a national intangible cultural heritage. It is the only project in Chongzuo City that has applied for a national "intangible cultural heritage". It is different from the "Qing Nang Hai" festival popular in Jingxi, Napo, and Debao in Guangxi. They cannot be confused. "Nang" means mother and "hai" means moon. "Nanghai" is Zhuang language, which means "Yuegu". Worshiping Nanghai means worshiping Yuegu. The Zhuang people's worship of Nanghai is a large-scale and programmed women's activity to worship the moon in the Zhuang area of Guangxi. The Zhuang people's worship of Nanghai generally refers to the Zhuang program of worshiping Nanghai in Gudi Zhuang Village, Chongzuo City, Guangxi. The local women of Gudi Zhuang Village worship Nanghai, which is not only worshiping the moon, but also performed by six women of high moral character. During the performance, the six women dress up as "witches", muttering ancient rhymes, shaking copper bells, surrounded by dozens of folk music players, playing simple and exciting ancient music, which is touching. The ultimate goal is to pray to the sky for water, blessings and peace. "The Frost Festival has existed since ancient times, to commemorate the extraordinary achievements of "Mihua". "Stories are recorded like songs every year, and the singing girls will sing for another hundred years." This long and reverberating song is sung by mountain singers in Xiangdu Town to commemorate a deceased Zhuang national hero "Mi Ai" and her heroic deeds of leading local people to resist foreign enemies and fight against the suppression of the imperial court. It is also the soul of Xiangdu Shuangjiang Cultural Festival. In order to commemorate the great achievements of this Zhuang heroine, it inspires the descendants of the Zhuang nationality to love and build their hometown. Every year on the Shuangjiang Festival, local people spontaneously organize to pay tribute to the tomb of Mrs. Changnai, hoping that the hero's soul will return to his hometown and pray for blessings and auspiciousness from heaven. During the three-day and three-night memorial service, some young men and women used folk proverbs and sang folk songs to express their longing. Over time, it became a convention and formed a unique Shuangjiang Cultural Festival, which has a history of more than 400 years.
