"Dachengquan" is a traditional folk martial arts project that is circulated in the old Baoqing area with Shaoyang as its center. It was founded in the late Qing Dynasty and originated from the ancient Baoqing Meishan Hongquan. It was created by successive martial arts predecessors on the basis of Meishan Hongquan, who studied and practiced hard. It integrates the essence of Chinese martial arts such as Hongquan, Xingyiquan, Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Shaolinquan, etc., and incorporates the theoretical essence of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, and medicine. Hence the name "Dachengquan". During the Xianfeng and Daoguang years of the late Qing Dynasty, Guo Yuanshen, the martial arts coach of Jiang Zhongyuan's unit of the Hunan Army's Baoqing soldiers, based on the basic routines and moves of Baoqing Meishan Hongquan, widely absorbed the essence of Chinese martial arts such as Xingyi, Bagua, Tai Chi, and Shaolin, combined with the actual combat needs of the Qing army's close combat, and created a unique boxing technique that used fists instead of guns and knives for fighting. It was widely practiced among the Hunan Army's Baoqing soldiers. After leaving the Qing army, Guo Yuanshen and his last disciple Wang Xiangzhai devoted themselves to studying the essence of martial arts, and combined with the theoretical essence of Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, and medicine, eliminating its shortcomings, discovering its secrets, discarding its shortcomings and taking its strengths, eliminating the false and retaining the true, and integrating them, and finally formed a unique boxing school. Master Guo Yuanshen and his apprentice officially opened the school in the third year of Xuantong in the late Qing Dynasty and named it "Dacheng Boxing". Dachengquan was born in a time of chaos and invasion of China by foreign powers. Wang Xiangzhai stepped forward to safeguard the dignity of the Chinese nation and defeated Japanese boxing star Kenichi Sawai, judo master Ichiro Hatta, European middleweight boxing champion James, etc. with Dachengquan, shocking the boxing world and making the Chinese proud. Dachengquan became famous and many people practiced it. Especially in Shaoyang, people are proud to practice Dachengquan. Dachengquan mainly consists of seven levels: standing, testing strength, friction steps, pushing hands, exerting force, testing voice, and actual practice. Dachengquan advocates practicing both form and spirit, cultivating both inside and outside, strengthening the body, and strengthening the body. Because it is not bound by the stylized routines and fixed moves of traditional boxing, it is easy to learn and practice, so it is deeply welcomed by the general public. Dachengquan has a good health and fitness effect, a strong combat effect, and a deep cultural heritage. Dachengquan is a competitive sport recommended by the Shaoyang Municipal Government for national fitness. It is widely popular and practical.
