Six-step Dahongquan is a traditional sports, recreation and acrobatics item on the fourth batch of representative items of Jiangsu provincial intangible cultural heritage. The ancient city of Fengxian has a profound cultural heritage and a long tradition of martial arts. For hundreds of years, many martial arts schools have been passed down. Six-step Dahongquan originated here. It is the leader in Fengxian martial arts with its unique charm. The introduction of Fengxian Six-step Dahongquan began during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (1799). At that time, there was Li Tai, a martial arts instructor of the Imperial Guard (also known as Li Bei and Li Zheng, from Enxian, Shandong. He was highly skilled in martial arts and once competed with the new champion. He split a stone lion with his palm and became famous in the capital.) In the early years of Jiaqing, Li Tai was framed by treacherous officials for treason. He refused to be arrested and fled from the capital. He went south to Shandong and finally settled in Qiuzhuang Village, Huankou Town, Fengxian. He lived incognito and made a living by doing odd jobs and making ointments. Later, he accidentally revealed his true skills. With the support of Huang Yuanyi, he began to teach his disciples. He first taught Dahongquan to 18 people including Zhang Jian (13 years old at the time), Huang Fei (son of Huang Yuanyi), Xiao Tan, Gong Nuo, Liu Suo, Yan Ming, etc. This was the beginning of the introduction of Six-Step Dahongquan into Fengxian County. Six-Step Dahongquan has a complete system and rich fists and weapons. It contains six-step skills and three levels; it is mainly based on six types of steps: horse, bow, empty, servant, cross, and independent; the fist frame is thick, hard and soft; it leads the qi with intention and stimulates the force with qi; the three-in-one inside and outside, the combination of yin and yang; the postures are changeable, and the attack and defense are unified; the feet fall and hit, and it is done in one go. Its unique style is well-known in Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Anhui. Six-Step Dahongquan was mainly spread in Fengxian and Peixian in Jiangsu and Yutai County in Shandong in the early days. After more than two centuries of inheritance, with the unremitting efforts of many generations of boxers, the six-step frame Dahongquan has spread from its birthplace Fengxian to all parts of the country. In the inheritance of history, the local residents have also called the "six-step frame Dahongquan" in various ways, such as: Hongquan, Dahongquan, three-swinging wing, six-step frame, three-swinging wing Dahongquan, Dahongquan, Dahongquan, six-step frame three-swinging wing Dahongquan, etc. In 2009, in order to vigorously promote the spiritual civilization construction of Fengxian, promote the inheritance and protection of the intangible cultural heritage of the region, and enhance the popularity of Fengxian martial arts. With the strong support of the county government and the county cultural and broadcasting bureau, the "Fengxian six-step frame Dahongquan" was included in the intangible cultural heritage protection project, and based on the six steps of the ancient Dahongquan training (flat qi frame, qi urging force, qi discharging dantian, mixed force, breath holding method, mixed qi training), it was officially named "six-step frame Dahongquan" for the first time and applied for intangible cultural heritage. In September 2010, it was listed as a "Fengxian County-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Project". In December 2014, it was approved as a "Xuzhou City-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Project". In January 2016, it was approved as a "Jiangsu Province-level Intangible Cultural Heritage Project".
