She was born in Shuibei Village, Gongming (now the western part of Bao'an District, Shenzhen) during the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty. At that time, the Dabi River (now Maozhou River) in Shuibei Village was flooded, plague was prevalent, and the local people were in dire straits. Although Chen Duanhe was young, he saw the miserable situation at that time and was determined to change the current situation where the villagers had been harmed by diseases for a long time. Despite the opposition of his family, he often went to Dongguan and Zengcheng to seek medical treatment and medicine, and exorcised the torture of diseases for the local people. Therefore, he was deeply loved and admired by the villagers. During the Tongzhi legendary period, Chen Duanhe ascended to heaven and became an immortal after his death. He punished the two river gods of the Dabi River, freeing the local villagers from the harm of floods and plagues, and people lived a life of plenty and peace. In order to praise her noble sentiment of selflessness and dedication, the villagers built a temple for her and compiled a story to pass down from generation to generation. The story of Chen Xiangu has certain historical value, folk value and literary value.
