Songkou folk songs in Meixian County have a long history and are widely popular among the people. They are typical representatives of China's famous Hakka folk songs. The beautiful legend of the legendary folk singer "Liu Sanmei" has been passed down from generation to generation, saying that "since ancient times, folk songs have been sung by Song ("Song" is homophonic with "Cong" in Hakka dialect), and there are folk songs brought by boats." This legend is comparable to the story of "Liu Sanjie" in Guangxi. As a kind of oral literature of the working people, Songkou folk songs are rich in content, simple and plain language, implicit and beautiful artistic conception, and a variety of singing styles. They have a strong Hakka culture and distinctive local characteristics, and are loved by Hakka people at home and abroad. They are extremely valuable folk cultural and artistic heritage. Chairman Mao Zedong said, "I love to listen to them." Marshal Ye Jianying said, "We should not only inherit traditions, but also strive to innovate." Mr. Guo Moruo has a poem that says, "Folk songs sing about the harvest at night." After a long period of evolution and development, it has not only inherited and preserved its folk literature tradition quite completely in the contemporary era, but also developed a new drama genre, Shange Opera, in the 1950s, which was praised as "Camellia". Shange Opera, as a new drama genre, uses Songkou Shange as its material for its music and singing. Its representative work "Ban Shui Xi Liu" has been performed for a long time and has been transplanted to perform among overseas Chinese in Indonesia. In 1996, the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China named Meixian as "China's Folk Art Hometown (Shange Art)" because of its close relationship with the inheritance and dissemination of Songkou Shange. In January 2006, Meixian's "Thousands of Shange Duets" "Hakka Shange is Famous" participated in the 2006 Meizhou International Shange Festival and was recorded in the Shanghai World Guinness World Records. Since 1983, Meixian has held the "Mid-Autumn Festival Shange Festival" every year, and it has been held for 24 consecutive sessions. In June 2002, the Songkou Folk Song Association of Mei County was established. It now has more than 30 members. The association adheres to the purpose of "inheriting, carrying forward and spreading the Songkou folk songs, the cultural masterpieces of the hometown". It often conducts folk song art discussions and singing exchanges, organizes folk song training classes, is committed to the popularization of folk song art, and often goes to primary and secondary schools to coach young people to sing folk songs. Songkou folk songs have rich and colorful tunes and various tunes. "The tunes are like strings of silk, winding and tough, euphemistic and round", and are very emotional. Songkou folk songs, full of local flavor, have become a spiritual bond connecting hometown feelings and overseas Chinese feelings. The 14th Mid-Autumn Folk Song Festival of Mei County in 1996 and the 21st Mid-Autumn Folk Song Festival of Mei County in 2003 were held in Songkou Town. Local singers enthusiastically performed on stage. The original ecological singing of Songkou folk songs won praise from audiences at home and abroad. Songkou folk songs are often broadcast on central, provincial, municipal and county radio and television stations.
