Yanchuan Folk Songs
Yanchuan folk songs are an important part of northern Shaanxi folk songs. They are commonly known as "mountain songs" or "sour songs" in Yanchuan, and have the artistic characteristics of northern folk songs. People can express their joy, anger, sorrow and happiness in the form of folk songs, which has become an important part of daily life. It can be basically divided into "Xintianyou", "minor tune", "wine song", "flower tune", etc., among which "Xintianyou" and "minor tune" are the most popular. Xintianyou lyrics mostly use metaphors and allusions, and are composed and sung immediately. Each paragraph has two sentences, the upper sentence is interesting, and the lower sentence is the theme, which is concise and comprehensive, and the coordination is tacit. There are also multi-section lyrical narratives. There are dozens of tunes, which can be basically divided into two categories: one is rigorous in structure, regular in rhythm, stable in melody, and soft in emotion, and flat tunes are often used when singing; the other is free in rhythm, wide in range, large in melody fluctuations, unrestrained in emotion, high in temperament, and high tunes are often used when singing. Most of the Xintianyou songs currently circulating are love songs, and its representative works include "Walking West", "Hanging Red Lanterns", "Five Brothers Herding Sheep", "Boat Song", etc. Minor tunes occupy an important position in Yanchuan folk songs due to their "large number and wide range of themes". Minor tunes are mostly five-character and seven-character lyrics, generally rhyming. In terms of content, they are narrative, reflecting the joys, sorrows, anger and happiness in social life. They have a strong civilian color and are more artistic than other folk songs. Representative works include "Picking Garlic Sprouts" and "The Young Widow Going to the Tomb". Jiuqu is a kind of tune that people sing to add to the fun when drinking. There are many types, the tunes are melodious and pleasant, and the content is mostly narrating historical stories and myths and legends, which increase people's interest in social occasions.
