Guzi Yangge is distributed in Shanghe area of Shandong Lubei Plain today. It is one of the three major Yangge in Shandong. Guzi Yangge originated in the Northern Song Dynasty, became established in the Ming Dynasty, and flourished in the Qing Dynasty. According to local famous old artists, during the Northern Song Dynasty, Shanghe area suffered from disasters for many years. Bao Gong came here from Henan to distribute grain and provide relief to the victims, and his subordinates taught Guzi Yangge to the local people. Later, people started to run Yangge every Spring Festival to show their gratitude to Bao Gong. It has been passed down to this day and has become a custom. Guzi Yangge is loved by the people of Shanghe, from the elderly to children. Yangge teams can be organized in 21 towns and more than 800 villages in the county. There are five roles in the Yangge team: umbrella head, drum, club, wax flower, and clown. The performance styles are very different and the charm is unique. The existing drum yangge is mainly divided into two parts: "journey" and "running field". "Journey" is the dance performed by the dance team before marching or entering the venue; "running field" is the main body of the performance, which is divided into "civil field" and "martial field" for different roles. The running field formations of the drum yangge performance are extremely rich, including "ox nose clamp", "hook heart plum", "one street and two gates", "six six big smooth", "four inside and eight outside", "eight streets", "four door fights" and more than 100 kinds. The "umbrella head" has round movements, the "drum" has rough and bold movements, the "club" has light and agile movements, and the "wax flower" has bold and generous movements, while shaking, drawing circles, squatting, jumping and running are common to all roles. There are many drum yangge dancers, with strict organization, complete form, healthy dance skills, magnificent momentum, deep historical and cultural connotations, rich contemporary atmosphere and distinctive local characteristics. After the founding of New China, the drum yangge participated in the National Folk Art Competition many times and won many awards. In 1996, Shanghe County was awarded the title of "Hometown of Chinese Folk Art" by the Ministry of Culture. The inheritance and development of Guzi Yangge has enriched the cultural life of the masses, inherited the excellent culture of the Chinese nation, and has high aesthetic and research value.
