According to legend, northern Shaanxi Yangko has existed since the Northern Song Dynasty. It was originally a Yang song. "It means that the time is more Yang, and spring songs are for fun." The "Yan'an Prefecture Chronicle" records that "Spring Festival is popular, commonly known as Yangko." From this, we can know that Yangko originated from the activities of worshiping the God of Land on the community day. It is a folk square collective singing and dancing art that is popular in Yan'an and Yulin, Shaanxi Province, and is usually performed on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Northern Shaanxi Yangko mainly includes two categories: "big Yangko" and "kicking the field". Big Yangko is a collective singing and dancing activity performed in the square, accompanied by social fire programs such as lions, dragon lanterns, bamboo horses, dry boats, and donkeys. "Kicking the field" Yangko has an even number of participants, in pairs, with men waiting for colorful fans and women dancing with colorful silk. There are three main roles in Yangko dance, namely umbrella head, civil, martial body and clown. After the reform, the roles of Yangko dance are different, and the costumes can be modern clothes with red silk ribbons tied around the waist.
