Yangko dance is the oldest folk dance form with a history of about 300 years. It is a mass self-entertainment dance. It is easy to learn, lively and enthusiastic. It embodies the people-oriented characteristics and representativeness. It was also called Yangko dance in the past. It is said that in ancient times, people would hold large-scale gatherings every year, singing and dancing, worshiping the god of agriculture, and praying for a good harvest. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, Yangko dance gradually emerged in Shuyang. It was more popular before and after liberation. People often celebrated liberation and victory and the harvest year in the form of collective Yangko dance. Later, there were Yangko dance performances in some large-scale festive activities. By the 1980s, this kind of mass activity was decreasing. Yangko dance is generally performed in squares and streets, and is mostly performed during festivals and celebrations. In the past, there were Yangko dance performances in all towns and villages in Shuyang County. Now it is mainly spread in Zhangxu Township, Huji Town, Tanggou Town, Shizi Community, and Miaotou Town in Shuyang County. Yangko dance performances are lively and diverse. The performers twist their waists, swing their arms, and take cross steps, which are characterized by being generous, lively, and fast-paced. Generally, many people are together, and the performance form is walking and dancing. The most basic unit of steps is: as the rhythm of the music starts, the left foot is lifted and then dropped, and when it drops, the right foot is lifted again, and after the right foot drops, the left foot is lifted again, and so on, moving forward or backward, and repeating such steps. In this process, the two arms swing forward or backward in the opposite direction with the foot on the same side, and twist the waist, and constantly change the formation. The complex yangko dance has diverse and flexible steps, which requires professional training and performances in performances. There is no fixed costume, but in some programs or organized performances, the performers mostly wear bright red and green costumes and wave ribbons in their hands. In the past, people used erhu, sanxian, and drums to play music and dance. During the Anti-Japanese War and after the liberation until the 1960s, people mostly used "Supporting the Army Yangko" as a common tune when dancing yangko, singing while dancing. Yangge dance is a very popular performance form among the masses. It has been active among the masses for a long time and is loved by the local people and an indispensable spiritual food. It is a dance performance that the masses love to see and hear, and it has broad mass appeal and entertainment.
