Chuanjiang Haozi is a folk singing form in which boatmen lead the singing and other boatmen join in the singing to unify the movements and rhythm. Chongqing and eastern Sichuan are the main birthplaces and inheritance places of Chuanjiang Haozi. Chuanjiang Haozi is mainly spread in the Jinsha River, Yangtze River and its tributaries Minjiang River, Tuojiang River, Jialing River, Wujiang River and Daning River. The waterway in this area is tortuous, the mountains are steep, the water is fast and there are many rapids. The water level difference is large throughout the whole process, especially when leaving Sichuan through the dangerous Three Gorges, the boatmen have a hard time. Chuanjiang Haozi came into being in this special geographical environment. Chuanjiang Haozi includes the upstream Haozi and the downstream Haozi. The boating songs include the songs for shoveling, rowing, mast erection, sail raising, and boat pulling. The songs for going down the river include the songs for towing, boat opening, flat water, second-rate oars, fast second-rate oars, one-two-three handover, beach sighting, beach crossing, and beach going, thus forming a music culture of the Sichuan River system with dozens of categories and thousands of tracks. Representative tracks include "Eighteen Pulls", "Balang Returns to Camp", "Guijie Xiushu", and "Kuixing Tower". "Towing Songs", "Catching Cables", "Oars", "Parrying Songs", "Big Turtle Dove", and "Little Turtle Dove". The history of Sichuan River songs is extremely long and is the most distinctive among Sichuan labor songs. Chongqing and Sichuan have been good at boating since ancient times, and there are many records of this in historical books of all dynasties. In recent years, cultural relics such as the "stone anchor" of the Neolithic period and the "pulling figurines" of the Eastern Han Dynasty unearthed along the banks of the river have confirmed the long history of the Sichuan River waterway transportation industry. The human geography, local customs, natural scenery and the custom of using songs to assist workers in shipping on both sides of the Sichuan River have long been used as themes in folk songs and poems by literati such as Du Fu and Li Bai.
