Xifeng District, Qingyang City, Gansu Province is located at the junction of Shaanxi, Gansu and Ningxia. It is the political, economic and cultural center of Qingyang City. It borders Heshui County and Zhenyuan County of Qingyang City in the east and west, and Ning County, Huan County, Huachi and Qingcheng County in the north and south. Qingyang Xifeng Suona is a folk wind and percussion music played mainly by suona, also known as drum and wind music. It has been continuously processed and passed down by generations of artists. With its numerous tunes, large performance teams, rich folk content and strong local characteristics, it has become a unique music genre in Chinese folk music. It is centered in Xifeng and distributed in the surrounding towns and villages of Qingcheng County, Huan County, Heshui County, Ning County, Zhengning County and Zhenyuan County. There are 31 suona classes and 286 practitioners in Xifeng District alone. The performance forms of this music genre include "big piece" combination and "small piece" combination. Generally, musicians can master more than two instruments and can be transferred at will without changing the personnel. Qingyang suona has rich tunes, simple charm, self-contained system and unique style. After the survey, more than 1,200 traditional music pieces were collected and recorded, and 496 pieces were compiled into the "Qingyang Folk Instrumental Music Collection". These tunes can be divided into three categories according to their origins and evolution: traditional tunes with a high degree of instrumentalization, folk song variations and local opera tunes. Representative pieces include "Pihong Guahua" and so on. The cultural value of Qingyang suona is not only reflected in the uniqueness of the music, but also in the extension of its content. For example, "Paobao" is one of the forms of expression with rich connotations. It greatly exerts the artist's improvisation ability through oral transmission, fully demonstrates the wisdom of the working people, and plays an important role in inheriting and carrying forward traditional virtues and enhancing social cohesion. However, this unique music is currently in a serious endangered state, and it is urgent to take corresponding rescue and protection measures.
