Tangjiadu Village, Huanggang City, Huangzhou District, is located on the north bank of the Yangtze River. In ancient times, there were many plagues and droughts. Since the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty (around 1800 AD), during the Spring Festival of the Jiazi year, people prepared five dragon lanterns according to the colors of the five dragons (yellow dragon, white dragon, red dragon, golden red dragon, and black dragon), named "Five Dragons to Worship the God", and danced dragons to thank the gods, praying for rain, epidemic control, disaster relief, and blessings. This has become a custom. Tangjiadu dragon dance has a fixed customary procedure. On the 18th day of the twelfth lunar month every year, the dragon head and tail are invited back and dragon clothes are worn; on the 20th day of the twelfth lunar month, the monks of the "Sanguan Temple" will hold a consecration ceremony and then tour the altar (referring to the residence of the villagers of Tangjiadu Village); from the 5th to the 15th day of the first lunar month, the dragon dance activities are carried out in the village and the surrounding villages and towns within a radius of hundreds of miles, and sometimes go to Xinzhou, Ezhou, Daye and other places; on the 15th day of the first lunar month, the lanterns are sent and burned. When burning the lanterns, the Taoist priests follow certain Taoist rules, which is very lively. When dancing the dragon, the dragon dance moves in the shape of eight characters. Every time the dragon arrives at a place, there are people who can sing cheers and bless according to the situation at that time. During the dragon dance, a troupe must be invited to perform, which is called "lantern opera". There are also waist drum and lotus performances.
