Tongliang Dragon Dance is a dance art form with dragon as the main prop that is popular in Tongliang County, Chongqing. It rose in the Ming Dynasty, flourished in the Qing Dynasty, and revived in the contemporary era, and is famous all over the world. Tongliang Dragon Dance includes two series: Dragon Lantern Dance and Colored Lantern Dance. Dragon Lantern Dance mainly includes ten varieties: Big Worm Dragon, Fire Dragon, Straw Dragon, Bamboo Shell Dragon, Huangjing Dragon, Bench Dragon, Zhenglong, Small Color Dragon, Bamboo Bang Dragon, and Lotus Dragon, among which the Big Worm Dragon is the most distinctive. Colored Lantern Dance mainly includes twelve varieties: Fish Leaping Over the Dragon Gate, Loach Eating Tangyuan, Three Strips, Eighteen Scholars, Bright Lion, Mountain Tiger, Clam Shell Spirit, Rhinoceros Looking at the Moon, Pig Gnawing Pumpkin, High Platform Dragon and Lion Dance, Wild Goose Pagoda Title, and Pumpkin Shed. Tongliang Dragon Dance is closely linked to folk activities, has rich routines, and is dynamic and interesting. The accompaniment music is unique, the props are ingeniously conceived, the shapes are exaggerated, the costumes are simple and generous, the dancers are free to join the dance, and it is convenient to leave the dance, and the public participation is extremely strong. Tongliang dragon dance embodies the spirit of unity, benefiting mankind, striving for progress, and harmony with nature. It also has social functions such as entertaining gods and people and demonstrating power. Only a few species of Tongliang dragon dance are famous in the world, such as the big worm dragon and the fire dragon. Most dragon dance species are endangered and urgently need to be protected and saved.
