Legend of Zhang Guolao
The legend of Zhang Guolao in Pingshan is a folk legend circulated in Gangnan Town and Dawu Township of Pingshan County, and is an important part of Pingshan folk literature. Zhang Guolao, whose surname is Zhang and whose name is Guo, is said to be the elder of the "Eight Immortals", so he is called Zhang Guolao. It is said that Zhang Guolao's hometown is Huobintai Village in Pingshan County. Huobintai is also called Xiamentai. The village is 20 kilometers away from Pingshan County, facing Gangnan Reservoir in the north and Donkey Mountain in the west. It is surrounded by mountains and rivers and rich in products. There are more than 480 households and more than 2,200 people in the village, mainly with the surname Zhang. According to the 80-year-old Zhang Yuting in the village, Zhang Guolao was born in Zhangjia Hutong, Huobintai, ranking 0, and his brother was named Zhang Neng. After the brothers separated, Zhang Guolao was given a broken basin, a little donkey and the custody of 0 parents. The mother and son lived a hard life, and Zhang Guolao made a living by chopping wood and farming. One day, on his way home, he saw two old men (North Pole Immortal and South Pole Immortal) playing chess under a peach tree in front of a mountain temple. Zhang Guolao tied his donkey to a stone and went to watch the old men play chess. During the game, he and his donkey each ate half a peach given by the old men, and he became an immortal without knowing it. When he returned home, the villagers had already forgotten him, and the legend of his becoming an immortal had been passed down for many generations. Pingshan folk literature: The legend of Zhang Guolao has been passed down from generation to generation in Huobintai, and has long been known to everyone. Today, on the Donkey Mountain in the west of the village, you can still see the mountain temple related to Zhang Guolao (the old site has been destroyed, only the foundation and rubbles are left), the old site of Zhang Guolao Temple, Qipan Ridge, Lanlujue, Donkey Hoof Ditch, Guolao Liang, Guolao Cave, Guolao House, Donkey Hoof Wo, Baohulu Stone, Lanlujue Mountain and other so-called fairy traces and traces. As well as historical records, "Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty conferred him the title of "Silver and Green Guanglu Dafu" and built "Qixia Temple in Hengzhou, Puwu County (now Pingshan County)" for him. According to the Pingshan County Chronicles, "The old city of Puwu was the fairy hometown of Zhang Guolao, one of the Eight Immortals. It was restored to Hengshan County in the Tang Dynasty, and then changed to Changshan, which is now Zhengding Prefecture, Zhili. Hengshan is located in the northwest of Quyang County, Zhili, and is also called Changshan. "Tracing back to the origin of history, it is enough to prove that Zhang Guolao is from Pingshan. However, there is also a saying about Zhang Guolao's birthplace in Shanxi. The reason is that there is also a Hengzhou in Shanxi Province, but Hengzhou in Shanxi did not follow the historical process of becoming Puwu County. Therefore, it can be known that Zhang Guolao is not from Shanxi. Pingshan County has the most legends and relics about Zhang Guolao. Yan Zhenfang, a retired teacher from Xirong Village, Dawu Township, Pingshan County, compiled the "Legend of Zhang Guolao and the Divine Journey of Donkey Mountain" after collecting information from many sources. It records in detail the legends about Zhang Guolao and Pingshan, proving the extensiveness, systematicness and typicality of the legend of Zhang Guolao in Pingshan.
