Xuyi Dragon Dance
Dragon dance, a traditional dance item in the second batch of representative items of Huai'an's municipal intangible cultural heritage. Dragon dance, also known as dragon lantern or dragon lantern dance, was introduced to Huai'an in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, and is now circulated in Huai'an, Xuyi and other places. The props of dragon dance are dragon lanterns, made of bamboo. The bamboo strips are tied into circles with lead wire, and the circles are interlaced and linked. Then four long ropes are used to connect the bamboo circles into a string, which is covered with black, yellow or white cloth. A ball is tied with bamboo strips and a handle is called "dragon ball" or "embroidered ball". The length of the dragon lantern in Xuyi area is 11 or 13 sections, about 10 meters. There are 9, 13 or 19 performers. During the performance, one person holds the "dragon ball" and dances in front. Under the leadership of the dragon head, the dragon dancer follows the "dragon ball" to change movements, dance up and down, and circle left and right. The performances include "Two Dragons Playing with a Pearl", "Two Dragons Emerging from the Water", "Fire Dragon Soaring", "Panlong Making Trouble in the Sea", etc. There are accompaniments such as drums, gongs, cymbals, etc. Dragon dances are usually performed at temple fairs, festivals and large celebrations. In addition, people also like to perform dragon dances at weddings, funerals, birthdays and other celebrations. Dragon dance is an excellent traditional folk art. The production of dragon lanterns has distinct regional characteristics and is a reflection of local folk craftsmanship. "Dragon dance" has the functions of promoting national culture, enhancing cohesion, and fitness and entertainment. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
