Dragon Dance Extension (Qixia Dragon Dance) Qixia Dragon Dance has a long history. Dragon dance activities have been circulated here since the Ming Dynasty at the latest. In history, dragon dances were mostly based on firewood dragons, mainly concentrated around Longwang Mountain in the southeast of Sheshan. During the Lantern Festival, every community would go to Longwang Mountain to worship the Dragon King. Here, the custom of playing with dragon lanterns was formed in every family. It has been passed down to this day. In the 1980s, Qixia District focused on the development of cloth dragon dances with Jiangnan characteristics and solved the problem of making dragon dance props. A team of dragon dance props was formed, which can make dragon dance props with high ornamental value by hand in a relatively short time. More than 60 dragon dance props have been made for Chinese communities in and outside the city and overseas. The regional advantage has given Qixia Dragon Dance a broad stage. Since the 1990s, Qixia Dragon Dance has been constantly adapting to the needs of social development and has become an important art form on the social and cultural stage of Nanjing. It has performed hundreds of shows for various international, national, provincial and municipal celebrations. In particular, the choreographed square group dragon dance has won the love of the audience with its majestic momentum and magnificent scenes. Qixia Dragon Dance is well-known in the province and abroad as a national folk art. In 1998, Qixia District was named the Hometown of Folk Art of Jiangsu Province by the Provincial Department of Culture. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
