In Kazakh, "wedding" is called "Kelen Tusu Rutoyi". As a horse-riding nation, the Kazakhs also have a wedding custom that reflects the legacy of ancient nomadic peoples. The Kazakh wedding ceremony includes a series of strict procedures, mainly including the marriage proposal ceremony, engagement ceremony, betrothal ceremony, wedding ceremony, and wedding reception ceremony. When the Kazakhs marry within the same clan or tribe, they are not allowed to marry within seven generations. The prohibition of marriage within seven generations is mainly calculated based on the clan blood relationship of the man. "Kazakh wedding customs" are mainly distributed in the two regions of Tacheng and Altay and 10 directly affiliated counties and cities under the jurisdiction of the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the two Kazakh Autonomous Counties of Mulei and Barkol, the Urumqi region, the counties of the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, and the territory of the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture. The marriage customs of the Kazakh people originated from the ancient Wusun. Since the formation of the Kazakh ethnic community in the middle of the 15th century, customary laws such as the "Hasmu Khan Code", "Yesmu Khan Customary Law" and "Touk Khan Code" have been issued one after another. These customary laws have regulated the customs of the Kazakh people's weddings, funerals, and marriages. Since then, the Kazakh wedding has been spread among the people with its unique ritual procedures. The ritual procedures of the Kazakh wedding are still relatively intact, and have developed into a folk phenomenon with nomadic characteristics. The Kazakh wedding customs cover the history, culture, life customs, aesthetic tastes, and value orientations of the Kazakh people. They have strong grassland cultural characteristics and are the most prominent manifestation of the traditional culture of the Kazakh people. They involve all aspects of the Kazakh people's food, clothing, housing, and transportation. They are rich in strong local characteristics and unique national characteristics. They are an important carrier of the traditional culture of the Kazakh people and have important academic value for studying the culture, history, folk customs, and other aspects of the Kazakh people. Currently, the number of older generations who are familiar with the traditional Kazakh wedding customs and rituals is decreasing, while the younger generation is keen on modern wedding ceremonies. As a result, there is a lack of successors in the inheritance, which puts the inheritance and development of traditional Kazakh wedding customs in crisis.
