The Banquet for a Thousand Old Men is the highlight of the first Longevity Festival in Yongfu, Guilin, China. The scene is spectacular. 200 tables are arranged in the central square to form a big Chinese character "寿" (longevity), and 1,199 old people have dinner together at the tables. According to relevant records, the Banquet for a Thousand Old Men began in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty and flourished in the Qianlong period. It is the largest and most attended imperial banquet in the Qing Palace. According to the Qing court's convention, the Banquet for a Thousand Old Men was held every 50 years. There were four Banquets for a Thousand Old Men in the Qing Dynasty. Most of the participants were elderly ministers, royal relatives, and social elites. The menu was also arranged according to the status of the people. All ingredients in the Banquet of Thousand Old Men are produced in Yongfu, including the world-famous monk fruit, as well as a number of specialties such as Sanhuang tomatoes, Baishou Xiangru, Yong'an yellow bamboo shoots, Suqiao horseshoes, and Banxia bamboo fish. The names of the dishes are even more ingenious. There are ten dishes on each table at the Banquet of Thousand Old Men, each of which is related to a township and its specialties, including Jinyu Soup (Yongfu Town), Shoutao (Taocheng), Mushroom Shoushou (Baishou Town), Juice Chicken Balls (Sanhuang Township), Buddha Fruit Wine (Longjiang Township), Horseshoe Glue (Suqiao Town), Chang'an Gongding (Yong'an Township), Banxia Bamboo Fish (Baoli Township), Jinshou Noodles (Luojin Town), and Fu Jing Qinren (Guangfu Township). While the banquet was going on, a helicopter took aerial photos and submitted the Banquet of Thousand Old Men to the Guinness World Records. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
