The Lantern Festival Banquet of Hundreds of Families in Taishun County is a unique and ancient custom of the Lantern Festival. It developed from the original "making spring blessings" and is a prayer ceremony held within the clan. Its purpose is to "gather clan members, discuss clan affairs, pray for a good harvest, and ensure safety." It began in the Northern Song Dynasty and has a history of more than 970 years. According to legend, in the Southern Song Dynasty, the ancestors of Zhangzhai Village, Sankui Town, fled here from Qinghe, Hebei to avoid war. The ancestors of the Zhang family drank reunion wine together on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month of each year. The predecessor of the "Banquet of Hundreds of Families" was "ancestral hall wine", which was limited to the local family gathering together for lunch. Gradually, it gradually evolved into a gathering of friends - the Banquet of Hundreds of Families. It is said to be extremely popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. As for ancestral hall wine, it is very common among the people in Zhejiang and Fujian. Every surname has one or two ancestral sacrifices every year, and then a few tables of wine banquets will be held in the ancestral hall for the clan members to gather. However, the participants are always limited to the same clan. Generally, people from other families will not take the initiative to intervene. The scale is only a few tables or a dozen tables. But the special thing about Taishun Hundred Family Banquet is that people from other families have joined this "wine party", and the scale is increasing year by year. At this Hundred Family Banquet, those who sat in the Zhang's ancestral hall to eat were not all Zhang's clan members in Zhang's house, nor were they all local people in Sankui. From ancient times to the present, the content of the Hundred Family Banquet has become more and more abundant, but it has never deviated from the most fundamental and important content of the event, holding a grand ceremony to worship the local deity Chen Shisi Niangniang and the puppet show god Wang Qi Lao. Before holding the Hundred Family Banquet, the locals also have to worship Chen Shisi Niangniang in the Linshui Palace near the Zhang's ancestral hall, so there are special requirements for the glutinous rice wine and pigs used for the sacrifice. The rice used to brew glutinous rice wine cannot be planted in the rice fields on the roadside, but in relatively remote mountain fields. In addition, during the entire rice growing period, fertilization, spraying, and pest control are not allowed, but let nature take its course. To put it in modern popular terms, it is authentic green food. The wine brewed with this kind of glutinous rice is not allowed to be tasted in advance by the brewer himself; there are also quite strict rules for raising pigs. First, castrated boars must be selected. Second, piglets cannot be fed with feed during the raising process, but some vegetables or rice bran. These two are the offerings for the next year's sacrifice. They are raised or brewed once a year by a special person. In the eyes of the locals, only in this way can it appear holy and be used for sacrifice. Chen Shisi Niangniang of Chen Shengmu Linshui Palace is a divine hero in folk legends. Because of her good deeds of "healing diseases, removing demons, helping the distressed, relieving disasters, protecting the fetus, and giving birth", she protects the country and the people, and has immeasurable merits. Her holy deeds have spread far and wide to Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Guangxi, Taiwan, Southeast Asia and many other places, and are widely recited and worshipped. The legend of Chen Shisi Niangniang in Taishun is that Guanyin's battle in heaven caused her two white hairs, and she turned into a male and female snake in the lower world to harm the human world. Three drops of blood oozed from her fingers and turned into red rain to fall on the Chen family, so Chen Shisi was born. The Chen family has been practicing Maoshan Taoism for generations. The people begged the Chen family to go out of the mountain to subdue the snake monster. Chen was ill and could not go, so he sent his two sons Fatong and Faqing to subdue the snake. Fatong was swallowed by the snake, but Faqing escaped and returned. Nanji Xianweng recommended Chen Shisi to Lushan to learn the law. After three years of learning, he returned. Chen Shisi held the Lushan Mountain Guarding Ox Horn and finally eliminated the snake monster after many battles. During this period, Chen Shisi violated the "Heavenly Rules" many times in the process of subduing the monster, and died at the age of 27. So he won the support of the people. During the process of leaving the palace and walking on the street on the Lantern Festival, the local good men and women were very pious. They lined up to welcome the Buddha statue with incense, and people set off firecrackers and fireworks wherever the Buddha statue went. - Under the canopy in the procession, many men and women held incense sticks and squeezed in. The Buddha statue was even more crowded. Everyone seemed to think that the closer they were to the deity, the more they would be protected by her.
