🎧  Listen to Introduction

Guangxi Nanlu Zhuang Opera is popular in Jingxi, Debao, Napo, Daxin, Tiandeng, Tiandong, Tianyang and other counties that use the southern dialect of Zhuang language. It originated from local folk songs and dances. Due to the influence of string puppetry, it was originally a double-act singing form with separate singing and acting. Later, it gradually enriched and developed into a form of opera. When singing, ah-ha-hai is often used as a lining tune, so it is also called ah-hai opera. The main singing tunes include flat tune, sigh tune (slow tune); picking flowers, happy tune (medium tune); fast happy tune, high tune (fast tune); crying tune, cold tune, poetry tune (sanban tune), etc. The accompaniment instruments are mainly qinghu (slightly larger than jinghu), thickhu (also called tuhu, shorter and thicker than zhonghu), and small sanxian. The repertoire includes "Jiejiu", "Double Champion", "Double Flower Pairing", "Baohulu", "Hundred Birds' Clothes", etc.
