Beilu Zhuang Opera originated in Tianlin County and is popular in western Guangxi. It is a local opera of Beilu Zhuang dialect with a history of more than 300 years. The late 1990s was the heyday of Beilu Zhuang Opera. At that time, there were more than 100 amateur troupes in Tianlin County alone, and almost one amateur actor was in every 100 people. Entering the 21st century, due to the accelerated advancement of the modernization process, Beilu Zhuang Opera has been impacted by multiculturalism. As old artists have passed away one after another, the enthusiasm of the young generation for Zhuang Opera is not high, and the inheritance has been interrupted. In order to enable this national cultural treasure to be inherited and developed, in the past decade or so, our region has taken effective measures to excavate and protect it, organized staff to collect and organize classic repertoires in popular areas, sent literary and art workers to the countryside to guide folk Zhuang Opera troupes, let peasant actors receive direct training, and allocated funds to build stages and create works, providing a broad stage for Beilu Zhuang Opera performances. In 2006, Guangxi Zhuang Opera, represented by Beilu Zhuang Opera, Nanlu Zhuang Opera, and Zhuang Shigong Opera, was successfully selected into the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists. Beilu Zhuang Opera has produced 11 generations of artists since its development. Huang Zhiyuan, the 11th-generation artist and representative inheritor of the autonomous region's intangible cultural heritage, has been connected with Zhuang Opera since childhood and has an incomparable love for Beilu Zhuang Opera. He learned to sing Zhuang Opera at the age of 5 and began to engage in the creation and arrangement of Zhuang Opera repertoires in the 1980s. Over the past 30 years, he has created 81 repertoires, changing the current situation of a single repertoire and few new plays. In 2016, his large-scale Zhuang opera "Yao Niang" received 2.5 million yuan in funding from the National Arts Fund for production and production. It participated in the regional drama exhibition and the National Minority Drama Festival in September and November of that year respectively. (Li Naisong)
