Wuhu Lihuang Opera, with a long history of nearly 300 years, is a "grassroots opera" that Wuhu people love very much. It originated from folk village songs and folk songs in the alleys. The melody of the music is closely related to the lullabies, crying tunes, white orchid tunes, old private poetry and book chanting tunes and Wuhu folk songs. Later, it absorbed some vocal art and musical structure of Erhuang, Bangzi and Kunqu Opera, and then was processed and tempered by generations of artists, making the Lihuang singing more abundant and perfect. The rhyme and language used in the play are pure Wuhu dialects, and the locality of the language is its basic artistic feature. The dialect entry of "Taiping Prefecture Records" says: "The language is not as light and clear as that of the provincial capital, but it is also clear and easy to understand." According to the dialect area division, Wuhu area belongs to the Wu dialect area, which is easy to accept Mandarin. "Clear and easy to understand" is the characteristic of Lihuang Opera. Therefore, Lihuang Opera is not only loved by local people, but also accepted by audiences in surrounding towns. As an artistic carrier, Wuhu Lihuang Opera, with its beautiful singing voice and vivid stage image, has a unique artistic function in building a socialist harmonious society and meeting the cultural life needs of the people. Especially after the founding of the People's Republic of China, a large number of young actors trained by Wuhu Lihuang Opera Troupe have become well-known actors who are very familiar and welcomed by the people of Wuhu.
