Xinjiang has been a cultural treasure of Shanxi since ancient times. It is located in the south of Shanxi and in the Yellow River Delta at the junction of Shanxi, Shaanxi and Henan provinces. "In the Tang Dynasty, it was the capital of the capital city, with the ruins of Daxia." It was once one of the capitals of the State of Jin. It was established as a prefecture from the Northern Wei Dynasty until the end of the Qing Dynasty. It is now a national historical and cultural city. Shanxi is the hometown of drum music, and Xinjiang is even more so. It is speculated from the late Neolithic earthen drums and alligator drums unearthed in Taosi, Xiangfen County, which borders it, that primitive drum music existed more than 6,000 years ago. After generations of collective inheritance, the Tang Dynasty saw a period of innovation, and was known for "beating the big drum" all over the world. It reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The music of "Qin Wang Po Zhen Yue" written by Li Shimin originated from Tangwangbao, Xinxiang County. The Cihai says that "gong and drum drama originated from Jiangzhou, Shanxi (now Xinxiang County)". Many brick carvings of drum, music and dance figurines from the Song and Yuan Dynasties have been unearthed here. The Zhili Jiangzhou Chronicle says: "There are community sacrifices every year, in summer and winter, and there are many incense in towns and villages, and community drums and dramas are performed." Drum music has been popular in Xinxiang County for thousands of years and has not declined to this day. Jiangzhou drum music, also known as Jiangzhou drum overseas, refers to the gong and drum music and wind and percussion music popular in Xinxiang County, named after Xinxiang County was formerly called Jiangzhou. Jiangzhou drum music condenses and precipitates the traditional culture of the children of the Yellow River for thousands of years, which is rough and thick, generous and passionate, fiery and free, vigorous and unrestrained. It relies on drums, cymbals, orchestral instruments, and especially the best sound of each part of the drum, and uses flower-beating and dry-beating to present the images of people, animals, and objects to the audience with rich and varied musical vocabulary, and can interpret a complete story. It is praised as the first of the "three wonders" of Shanxi drum music art and the "national treasure" of Chinese drum music art. In the world of drum music art, it is the "surprise weapon" that "snatched" the Japanese ghost drum from the front. In February 2003, Xinjiang County Jiangzhou Drum Music was included in the first Representative List of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
