Zhongzhou Drum
Zhongzhou drum was formed during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty (1606), with a history of more than 400 years. It is a unique folk art form in northern Henan that combines drums, cymbals and gongs. According to the Tianxian Temple stele in Zhaodi Village, Langgongmiao Town, Xinxiang County: During the Wanli period (1606), in order to resist bandits and invaders, villagers donated money to buy several drums to boost morale. During the Xianfeng period of the Qing Dynasty (1850), villager Zhang Wanmian added cymbals, gongs and bronze instruments, and organized three drum teams, the Tiandihui, Tianyehui and Huoshenhui. Zhongzhou drum began to take shape. In the early years of the Republic of China, Zhongzhou drum developed again. Villagers such as Zhang Zaifu adapted traditional music, added equipment such as tiger head brand dragon flags and lanterns, and used drum art in activities such as sacrifices and festival celebrations. Zhongzhou drum is typical and representative in drum art performances. First, the drum is big. The big drum is 3.5 feet in diameter and weighs more than 50 kilograms. It is the largest drum carried on the back of a person. It has a primitive beauty and a majestic momentum. There is a tension spring inside the drum, and the metallic sound it makes after being struck is very pleasant. Second, the score is unique. The drum score is divided into two types: "Da Hu Lei Pao" and "Xiao Hu Lei Pao". The "Da Hu Lei Pao" drum tune is heavy and steady, the rhythm is slow, and the drum tune is complex; the "Xiao Hu Lei Pao" drum tune is cheerful and smooth, giving people a feeling of enthusiasm and optimism. The whole score presents a repeated and progressive musical structure, and the cymbals and drums have a unique artistic conception of dialogue. Third, the dance is special. The dance cymbals move when they hear the drums, completely stepping on the drum beats, and quickly changing various dance movements and shapes. On the basis of traditional drums, drum dance adds giant drums and aerial drum dances, which have strong visual impact, spatiality, and three-dimensional sense, and the drum dance is heavy. Zhongzhou drum has a rough style, magnificent momentum, changeable formations, and strong regional characteristics. With its unique "combination of sound and form" performance form and bright and vigorous rhythm, it reflects the unique cognition and feelings of the farmers in the Central Plains towards society, and shows their passionate, bold and generous mental state. With the development of the times, the urbanization of rural areas and the evolution of urban convergence, the protection of Zhongzhou drum, an art of drumming, has become more difficult and the task has become more arduous. The inheritance of its skills faces the dilemma of lack of successors. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
