Su's Orthopedics
Su's Orthopedics was first created by Su's predecessors in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. When Su Haifeng came to Tianjin, he created paper pads and bamboo combs based on the previous use of wrapping curtains, vibrating and other instruments to treat fractures. From then on, the Su's bone setting technique, which was famous in Tianjin, was formed and passed down from generation to generation since the first generation. The characteristics of orthopedics are that it does not require surgery, fixation is physiological, is conducive to blood circulation, and shortens the time by half compared with plaster fixation. Su's Orthopedics is a general name for bone setting medicines and bone setting techniques accumulated by the Su family over hundreds of years. In the 1950s, Su's descendants donated the Chinese medicine secrets accumulated over hundreds of years to the country, and many prescriptions have been included in the Chinese medicine classics by the country. For example, Qili Powder and Dieda Pills are all prescriptions in Su's Orthopedics. Su's bone setting capsules are widely used in Tianjin hospitals. In Tianjin, it is widely circulated that "Mr. Su knows everything and sells plasters at Jinyiwei Bridge". "Su's Plaster" is popular among the people for its quick effect of promoting blood circulation, dispersing blood stasis, reducing swelling and relieving pain, and is well-known in Tianjin. In 1958, under Chairman Mao's instruction to "leave Western medicine and learn Chinese medicine", Tianjin People's Hospital invited Su Shaosan, the sixth-generation heir of the Su family, to participate in the clinical work of the trauma department and teach some of the techniques and theories of "Su's Orthopedics". Together with Western medicine practitioners such as Gu Yunwu, they formed a team of old, middle-aged and young people. After more than ten years of clinical practice, they summarized the "new fracture treatment" of eight closed repair techniques for limb fractures and a series of local small splints (Su's) external fixation. In 1964, the book "Combination of Chinese and Western Medicine for Fracture Treatment" compiled by Su Baoheng, Fang Xianzhi, Gao Tianyu and others was translated into English and Japanese and published. In 1963, Fang Xianzhi represented the Chinese orthopedic community at the "International Orthopedic Society" and published a summary paper on "Su's Orthopedics", which had a great impact. Su's ancestors were from Jiangsu who followed the Yan King of the Ming Dynasty to settle in Jinyiwei Bridge, Hebei District, Tianjin. Jinyiwei Bridge is where the Jinyiwei were stationed. Su's ancestors founded and developed "Su's Orthopedics" in this environment. Su Haifeng is the founder and it has a history of more than 300 years.
