Tumen Korean Mask Dance
Masked dance originated in the Korean Peninsula. It is a form of entertainment using masks and has a long history. It was popular during the Lee Dynasty. It was originally a performance form of the Korean "Nongyue Dance". With the continuous enrichment and independence of dance performance forms, it gradually became an independent folk dance. The earliest mask pattern of "Masked Dance" was the head of animals such as tigers and leopards, which were interspersed in the "Nongyue Dance". After it was separated from the "Nongyue Dance" during the Lee Dynasty, it gradually evolved into a human head mask and was endowed with certain ideological content. The actors covered their real faces with masks and played various roles. Through the entertainment performances of various exaggerated masks, they satirized and deeply exposed the decadent and licentious life of the aristocracy, and lashed out at the decadent mental state and nature of the ruling group, which had a strong progressive significance and realistic educational significance. At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, it was introduced to China with the influx of a large number of Korean immigrants and was more popular in the Yanbian area. Masked dance is mainly performed by actors wearing masks. It shows a group of farmers celebrating the harvest. Two noble drunkards and a group of prostitutes come to make trouble. They are ugly and thrown into the wine barrel by the intolerable masses. The basic content expresses anger. The performance is humorous and the scene is grand. The dance is based on the traditional dance of the Korean ethnic group. It uses exaggerated performance movements and is accompanied by percussion music. One after another, it vividly and profoundly shows the outlook on life, values and world outlook of different classes. Masked dance is the only dance in Korean folk dance that uses masks to perform, and it has a distinct ideological content. Although there is no fixed performance program, the performance with masks has a unique performance method in Korean folk dance, which is very national and artistic. It is a special performance form of Korean folk dance. It is of great value for studying Korean folk dance and culture, and is of great significance to enriching and improving the form of Chinese folk dance.
