One school mainly uses small gongs, small hairpins and small drums as accompaniment instruments, emphasizing elegance and beauty. The other school mainly uses large hairpins, large gongs and large drums, with strong and bright rhythms. However, both schools of twisting performances require small steps and light movements, steady alternation, dancing gracefully, and being unrestrained and generous. According to the local people, "let go, hold back, twist the whole body and move lightly; the ground is low, the hands are high, and walking is like floating on water", "like a fairy descending to the earth, like flowing clouds and water". Huangling old yangge performances are mainly performed in squares, with no limit on the number of people, especially at night for the best effect.
