The Zhenyuan Dragon Boat Race is a traditional sports and recreational cultural activity participated by multiple ethnic groups. Every year during the Dragon Boat Festival, Zhenyuan County, Guizhou Province, holds a dragon boat race mainly featuring dragon boat racing, including traditional dragon worship ceremonies, dragon and lion dance parades, colorful boats sailing on the river, grabbing ducks in the water, releasing river lanterns, lighting fireworks and cultural performances. In ancient times, Zhenyuan belonged to the Chu State, and Chu culture prevailed. Since ancient times, the people of Zhenyuan have had the custom of holding dragon boat races to commemorate the patriotic poet Qu Yuan. As early as the Ming Dynasty, Zhenyuan had the reputation of "the hometown of dragon boats". The "Guizhou General Records" of the Ming Dynasty stated: "Zhenyuan Prefecture, Dragon Boat Races on the Dragon Boat Festival, the prefecture is close to the river, and boats are convenient. Those who pull the boats first to cross the river will benefit from doing things that year." The custom of people of all ethnic groups seeking peace and safety through Dragon Boat Races on the Dragon Boat Festival has been passed down from generation to generation. Since the 1980s, dragon boat racing has become more active. In the mid-1990s, the "Zhenyuan Dragon Boat Festival on the Dragon Boat Festival" was officially named, and it has been the 26th session so far.
