The making technique of Zanianqin
As one of the representative traditional Tibetan musical instruments with a long history and widespread spread, the Zhanian was spread to the Tibetan area of Hōzang and was widely popular in Lhazi County. Lhazi County is known as the "hometown of Duixie" and is famous for playing and singing the Zhanian. The processing of the Zhanian in our county is slightly distributed in the county area. The most famous is the Zhanian Cooperative in Pencuolin Village. The sound quality, timbre and workmanship of the Zhanian made by Qunpei (Lunzhu) as the inheritor of the county-level intangible cultural heritage of the Zhanian making skills are better than those of other craftsmen. The traditional qin is composed of a resonance box, a head, a neck, pegs, a bridge and strings. The body of the qin is mostly made of mulberry, birch, pine and walnut. The size of the qin varies, and the most common ones are 100 cm to 110 cm in length. The resonance box is like a cut half gourd, about 27 cm long, made by hollowing out the inner cavity of a whole piece of wood, and most of them are engraved with prismatic patterns on the back. The front of the resonance box is covered with sheepskin, deerskin, fish skin or python skin, with a width of 14 cm to 16 cm. Since python skin is a rare raw material, some artists will draw scale-like patterns on the sheepskin of the resonance box. Although the tone is still not as good as the Zanian made of python skin, it can also play a good decorative role. There is a crescent-shaped sound hole above the leather surface of the resonance box, which is where the Zanian was born. According to collectors, this sound hole is the cherry mouth of the legendary goddess of music. In Tibetan folk legends, it was the goddess of music who taught the Tibetan people the playing skills of Zanian, and Zanian itself is the incarnation of the goddess of music. Whenever people play Zanian, it is as if the goddess of music is singing a heavenly voice. At the same time, the placement of Zanian is also very particular. The round resonance box is regarded as the head of the goddess of music by the Tibetan people. When hanging or placing it, the body of the instrument must be turned upside down, that is, the resonance box is facing up and the head of the instrument is facing down. Lunzhu started learning from his father in 1994, mainly making the tsannenqin. Through oral transmission and 8 years of practical experience, his craftsmanship has caught up with his father. After decades of hard work, he has formed his own production style. He studied the characteristics of the tsannenqin production skills on his own, and inherited and developed the tsannenqin manufacturing skills of Lazi Gulong. Qunpei took it as his responsibility to pass on the tsannenqin production skills of Lazi, and established the Pencuolin Township Traditional Six-Stringed Qin National Handicraft Farmers' Professional Cooperative in Pencuolin Township. He led the carpenters in the team to learn the production of the tsannenqin, and played an exemplary role in the inheritance and protection of the tsannenqin production.
