Zhennan Yueqin is popular in Longchuan Town, Nanhua County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture. It is named after the old name of Nanhua, Zhennan County. Zhennan Yueqin is commonly known as "Xianzi" locally. It has a long history of production and was well-known in Sanyi during the Qing Dynasty. The "Zhennan Prefecture Chronicle" of Guangxu records: "The Yang family of the prefecture inherited the industry, and all the products they made have beautiful sounds, and the market is very expensive." In the old days, most workshops were concentrated in the city, including Baoyuezhai, Deyuezhai, Deyuelou, Wanyuexuan, etc. There are about 20 shops, and the one made by Guo Chunxi, the owner of Baoyuezhai, is the most famous. Zhennan Yueqin has exquisite craftsmanship and beautiful shape. The materials used are catalpa wood, water winter melon wood, bamboo shoots, strings, etc. The whole piano consists of 6 parts: the piano pole, the piano hairpin, the piano drum, the piano frets, the fishing platform, and the piano heart. The top of the pole is carved with "Old Dragon Holding Pearl", and there are 13 bamboo frets below that reach the middle of the drum. There are four hairpins (string knobs) on both sides. The drum is engraved with exquisite ethnic patterns such as "Double Dragons Fighting for Treasures". A steel wire with a copper coin tied to it is called "Dare". The strings are tied to the hairpin and the "Diaoyutai" in the middle and lower part of the drum. There are 10 processes in total: making the frame; making the board; engraving patterns on the board (such as chain pictures, torches, dragons, etc.); making the pole; making the tuning rod, commonly known as the string ears; making the dragon head; making the string platform (7 to 9, the Yueqin with 7 string platforms can only play Yi songs, and the Yueqin with 9 string platforms can play popular songs); making the string code; installing the string line; painting and installing a small mirror in the middle of the board as decoration. It is exquisitely made, exquisitely carved, with a crisp and pleasant tone and a distinct rhythm. Over the years, Zhennan Yueqin has been prosperous and has become one of the indispensable instruments in the national orchestra (team). The Zhennan Yueqin is not only a musical instrument that is loved by professional and amateur artists and folk artists, but it is also a well-crafted carved art work with high appreciation and collection value. Many people come from far and wide to buy it. In addition to being sold in various parts of Yunnan, it is also sold to the United States, Thailand, Myanmar and other countries. At present, the only people who can make the Zhennan Yueqin are Guo Qingyun, 54, from Xiyun Community, Longchuan Town, and Li Shuming, 42, from Chahe Village Committee. Both artists have no apprentices.
