In the Baolawindu Mongolian Township of Tongyu County, there is a kind of storytelling art, which is called Uliger in Mongolian, which means "storytelling" in Chinese. It uses the Sihu as the accompaniment instrument, so it is also called "Mongolian Qinshu", which is an ancient Mongolian traditional folk storytelling art form. Each person plays a qin and tells a story. The performance can be performed in large-scale performances or in single households or in the fields and grasslands. Every evening, when the cattle and sheep return to the pens, the herdsmen will gather in the yurts, and the artists will play the Sihu, and the heroic legends and touching stories will begin to sing. On the grassland, the artists who rap Uliger are called "Huerqin". The vast grassland has created the romantic and open artistic atmosphere of "Huerqin", which has lasted for hundreds of years. Especially in the Horqin grassland, it has been popular for nearly a thousand years. Similar to the bards in the Middle Ages in the West, the "Hurqin" carries a four-stringed harp and wanders on the prairie. One person plays and sings by himself, and often performs impromptu. As long as a topic is given, the "Hurqin" can speak fluently. Liang Haiqing from Baolawindu is one of the best among them. Liang Haiqing was born in Yaolimaodu, Kezuozhong Banner. In his early years, he liked the art of Uliger very much. In 1969, he studied under Mengsigeleng, a famous artist in Kezuozhong Banner, to learn the traditional Mongolian harp and book repertoire. Liang Haiqing not only inherited the skills of his master, but also formed his own unique style. Representative works include: "The Romance of Sui and Tang Dynasties", "The Eighteenth Generation of the Tang Dynasty", "The Fiery King Kong", "Linhaixueyuan", "Water Margin", "Gada Meilin", "Xue Li Zhengdong", etc. In order to continue this folk treasure, Liang Haiqing also accepted an apprentice named Namula and taught him carefully. Liang Haiqing has a very deep artistic accumulation in rapping Uliger. "The Story of Suppressing Manggus", "The Five Chronicles of Tang Dynasty", "Kublai Khan" and "The Romance of Yuan History" are all his classics. The sources of Uliger's themes are very wide, some are from folk stories; some are from the creations of literati or artists; some are taken from well-known legends of the Chinese folk, with a strong Mongolian flavor. After entering the 1950s, with the mixed residence of Mongolians and Han people and the dispersion of Mongolian families, the performance environment was restricted, the audience became fewer and fewer, and most of the performing artists withdrew from the stage, lacking successors. As the inheritor of Uliger, Liang Haiqing is happy that this project has been listed in the list of intangible cultural heritage of Baicheng City, and is being excavated and rescued. The county government has also included the protection and inheritance of "Uliger" in its annual work plan and increased its financial investment in "Uliger". We firmly believe that with the joint attention and strong support of leaders at all levels and people of insight from all walks of life, Liang Haiqing's "Uliger" will surely be inherited and developed.
