🎧  Listen to Introduction

It is a branch of Quanzhou's "drum jumping" dance, mainly distributed in urban and rural areas of Quanzhou and Jinjiang, Shishi, and Xia Nan'an. The content shows the story of the Liangshanpo heroes in "Water Margin" disguised as a juggling troupe, under the guise of performing arts, waiting for an opportunity to sneak into the city gate, rob the execution ground, and beat Lu Junyi. The characters generally include 8 people such as Lu Zhishen, Gu Dasao, Sun Erniang, Ruan Xiaoer, Shi Qian, Yan Qing, Hu Sanniang, and Wu Song. The props are mainly small drums, flat, 8 inches wide and 2 inches thick, with rings on both sides, which can be put on both hands and rotated when the middle finger is used to pluck them. There are also wooden fish, double bells, clappers, small calls, money sticks, flower fans, etc. The dancers each hold props, amuse themselves, move briskly, and cooperate tacitly. The whole dance is performed with various crisp and pleasant percussion sounds and Nanyin accompaniment. The performance of Xuangu dance is mainly based on teasing and dancing, and they cooperate with each other tacitly. The rhythm changes are based on the drum command. The rhythm changes of the drum include "soft drum", "hard drum", "single drum", "slow drum", "tight drum", etc. The movements of the rotating drum include "holding the drum", "shaking the drum", "turning the drum", and "eight-character drum". The flower fan of the colorful female role includes "turning the fan", "clapping the fan", and "holding the fan". The monk's wooden fish includes "one knock, two beats, three sounds, and four flips". The movement combinations of each pair include "seven-step flip", "splashing feet and slow steps", "grinding feet and moving steps", "Kuixing kicking", "Iron Crutch Spirit Forehead", "Dongbin carrying a sword", etc. The whole dance is centered on the actor holding the rotating drum, making various postures and shapes to match the drum, plus the formation changes, advancing and retreating, and marching all the way, becoming a unique folk dance in Quanzhou. Before the 1950s, the various shops in the old Quanzhou city often held welcoming god competitions. The shops competed with each other in the number and quality of street parade teams and variety of art skills, resulting in the formation of their own artistic characteristics. Among them, the "Shenghan Jumping Drum" in "Shenghan Realm" is the most beautiful of the "jumping drum" dances. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
