Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Playing the Wei Drum People who play the Wei Drum are called "playing friends". After work or at weddings or funerals, four or five "playing friends" are invited to sit together and sing. There is no stage, makeup or costumes, and it is usually held in a play area or teahouse. The play friends sit in their seats, holding instruments such as ban drums, tang drums, Sichuan drums, horse gongs, Sichuan hu, cymbals, etc., playing and singing by themselves. The person playing the ban drum is the drum master, and other instruments are directed by the drum master's gestures, drum sticks, and drum beats. Playing the Wei Drum does not cost much and is not very troublesome, so it has penetrated into the folks and spread widely, satisfying the requirements of Sichuan opera lovers who love to sing and listen.
