Shaoyang County is located in the south-central part of Hunan Province. It was established in 206 BC. It has many mountains and little land, and has four distinct seasons. Since ancient times, it has been the main production area of high-quality tea oil and high-quality tung oil in my country. According to the social survey statistics of the Hunan Provincial Government in the 39th year of the Republic of China: Shaoyang County has an area of 607,100 mu of tea oil forest and 128,200 mu of tung oil forest, with an annual output of 2.2409 million kilograms of tea oil and 1.5378 million kilograms of tung oil. It is the main production county of tea oil and tung oil in Hunan. Due to the abundance of tea oil and tung oil, traditional manual oil pressing technology has always been a major oil processing technology in the county. In 1957, there were 1,618 manual oil pressing rooms in the county. By the early 1980s, every township and village still had traditional oil pressing workshops. The manual oil pressing technique has a long history. The earliest detailed written records are "Qimin Yaoshu" by Jia Sixie of the Northern Wei Dynasty and "Tiangong Kaiwu" by Song Yingxing of the Ming Dynasty. The only written evidence that can be found in the local chronicles is "Tung oil and tea oil, both of which are cut into kernels and squeezed with troughs" in "Shaoyang County Chronicles" (Volume 47 Products) in the 25th year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty. Manual oil pressing is a traditional folk skill closely related to the lives of the people. It processes vegetable oil by hand. The basic contents are: stone milling and screening, steaming and wrapping cakes, and wood pressing to extract oil. All three processes are completed by hand, and the equipment for each process is handmade, which fully reflects the wisdom and superb craftsmanship of our ancestors. Manual oil pressing technology is the product of the high development of ancient agricultural science and technology, and the crystallization of the diligence and wisdom of the Chinese nation. Its emergence has not only changed people's living habits, but also liberated productivity to a large extent and promoted social development. With the development of modern industry, the ancient folk art of traditional oil pressing has faded from people's sight. As a witness of human civilization and carrying the wisdom of ancestors, the manual oil pressing technique is facing the risk of being lost due to the impact of modern civilization.
