Dong'an martial arts originated from Emei boxing during the Three Kingdoms period, and has a history of more than 1,700 years of development and evolution. Dong'an martial arts masters of all generations absorbed the essence of Shaolin boxing, black tiger boxing, and spider boxing, and made bold innovations, making Dong'an martial arts stand out among the various martial arts schools in the south and unique. At present, it is mainly spread in Shuiling, Damiaokou, Lumaqiao, Shiqishi, Zixishi, Jingtouwei, Dasheng, Luhongshi, Duanqiaopu, Baiyashi and other towns in Dong'an County. Dong'an has a traditional custom of "going out to learn from a master and inviting a master to teach at home" since ancient times, and enjoys the reputation of "no one can beat Dong'an" in southern Hunan. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Dong'an martial arts has been improved and popularized at the same time. Excellent martial arts athletes have emerged in an endless stream. They have participated in provincial and national martial arts competitions many times, and won a total of 186 medals. They have successively sent 23 outstanding athletes to the Hunan Provincial Wushu Professional Team and nearly 200 people have been admitted to colleges and universities. Dong'an County has won the honorary titles of "National Martial Arts Hometown" (1992), "National Mass Sports Advanced Unit" (2001), "National National Fitness Advanced Unit" (1997), "Hunan Martial Arts Hometown" (1984), and "Hunan Province Folk Martial Arts Excavation and Sorting Advanced Collective" (1986). Dong'an martial arts are rich in connotation, unique in style, and have a huge influence. They are of great value and significance in enhancing people's physical fitness, enriching competitive activities, improving national self-confidence, and showing national cultural creativity. As a traditional sport, Dong'an martial arts has gradually deteriorated in recent years due to various reasons such as cultural diversity and economic globalization. The living environment has gradually deteriorated, martial arts activities, martial arts talents, and martial arts halls have decreased sharply, and there is a lack of successors. Some martial arts skills and unique skills are on the verge of being lost. The current situation is worrying, and the protection situation is very severe. It is urgent to take effective and feasible protection measures to ensure that Dong'an martial arts can continue to be inherited and carried forward.
