Chibi City is located on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. It is the site of the famous Battle of Chibi in the Three Kingdoms period. Chibi Foot Basin Drum is a folk percussion instrument that has been popular in Chibi City for more than 3,000 years. According to historical records, Chibi Foot Basin Drum originated from the ancient Chu land during the Shang, Zhou and Warring States periods. Along with the evolution of production, life, etiquette and customs of the Chu people and historical changes, it gradually evolved from conception and production to maturity and development. It is a historical witness to the continuous development and evolution of Chu culture, and is rich in legendary colors that are mutually confirmed with the Battle of Chibi. The shape of Chibi Foot Basin Drum is extremely vivid and simple, almost a true replica of a daily necessity of the local people. According to historical records, the specific historical background of this shape is that during the Battle of Chibi, Zhou Yu mobilized and organized the eight Wubaos stationed in the area, which were integrated with farming and fighting, to actively participate in the battle against Wei. In the subsequent evolution, although its performance occasions have been greatly expanded and its decoration has also been integrated into many other types of art, its "foot basin" shape has remained unchanged, forming a heritage with a broad foundation and high recognition, which has lasted for nearly 1,800 years. Nowadays, it is very common to have more than 100 foot basin drums in urban and rural areas of the city, and the stock of foot basin drums in the city can reach tens of thousands. The performance occasions of Chibi foot basin drums range from production labor, daily life to etiquette and customs, culture and entertainment, especially the folk dragon dance. Whether it is a single dragon lantern, a group of dragon lanterns, or a women's lantern, a straw lantern (a dragon lantern played by children), there are drum teams with impressive formations. The number of drums each time ranges from dozens to dozens, and the drum sound is deafening and echoes for ten miles. The tunes played are diverse and colorful. For example, [Dragon Twisting Pillar], [Wolong Drum], [Qilin Sending a Child], [Peace in the World], [Kong Ming Revealing the Book], [Eight Diagrams Formation], [Zhou Yu Pointing Generals], [Chibi Fighting], etc. There are more than 80 kinds of tunes. The formation of these tunes is the crystallization of the wisdom and labor of artists from past generations, and it is also a valuable cultural heritage of Chibi. Since the 1970s, dances, instrumental performances and large-scale square art group performances based on the theme of Chibi Foot Basin Drum have been rich in content and distinctive in characteristics. They have had a great influence in and outside the province and have been well received. Due to the rapid and changing social development, the rapid development of modern technology, and the convergence and interweaving of multiple cultures, the social foundation on which Chibi Foot Basin Drum depends has also undergone profound changes, resulting in a shrinking space for activities; the continuous aging of traditional folk artists has caused a serious fault in this folk art, and its production skills and performance techniques have gradually fallen into a difficult predicament of lack of successors. It is urgent to strengthen the rescue and protection of this folk instrumental art. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
