Lingbi Drum
Lingbi drum is popular in Lingbi County and its surrounding areas. It is a form of folk art created by the people in their long-term production and life practices. It is said that the origin of Lingbi drum can be traced back to the story of Xiang Yan beating drums and telling stories to recruit soldiers during the Warring States Period. Folk artists, based on the form of drum storytelling, integrated local operas and folk tunes to create a unique form of folk art, drum storytelling. In the middle and late Qing Dynasty, Lingbi drum gradually prospered. Due to the severe floods at that time, many people were displaced. The victims fled everywhere and begged by beating drums and storytelling. Lingbi drum took root and gradually developed and grew. The content of Lingbi drum singing is mostly based on historical epics, martial arts, public cases and other novels that are popular among the people. It is also often based on local characters, stories, legends, etc. The lyrics are mostly in local dialects, with slow speed, long tail sounds, fierce pronunciation, true pronunciation, heavy falling sounds, and the melody is like speaking and singing, natural and smooth. Sometimes in the process of storytelling, in order to make it easier for the masses to understand, narration is added in the singing, and it is accompanied by movements and expressions from time to time. Lingbi drum has distinct regional characteristics. It has its own system in singing, pronunciation, rhythm and performance. It embodies the essence of local literature and art and contains rich humanistic and historical resources. It has important reference value for studying folk history and local customs. The lyrics of the drum are taken from real life, easy to understand and very appealing. There is still a considerable audience in rural areas.
