The Shunwang Temple Fair in Shaoxing (hereinafter referred to as the Shunwang Temple Fair) is a folk activity to celebrate Shunwang's birthday on the 27th day of the 9th lunar month, which is formed gradually due to the special belief and worship of Shunwang by the people in the Kuaiji Mountain area. It integrates the folk customs of the people in the mountainous area, the folk literature and art of the mountainous area, and the traditional market of the ancient mountainous area, and has been passed down from generation to generation in the Kuaiji Mountain area. The Shunwang Temple Fair in Gulai Town, Shengzhou City is an important part of the Shunwang Temple Fair in Shaoxing. The Shunwang Temple Fair in Gulai Town, Shengzhou City is a purely grassroots and purely folk Shun ceremony organized spontaneously by the people and mainly participated by local people. It has been held for 3 sessions so far. Every year on the 24th day of the 9th lunar month, there is a temple fair in Wushan Temple, which usually lasts for five days, starting from the 24th day of the 9th lunar month to the 28th day of the 9th lunar month. The main contents include the Shunwang Ceremony, the Emperor Shun's Parade, and the community drama including beating drums, ringing gold, offering five blessings, playing music, firing guns, and firing cannons. The main venue for the Shunwang Temple Fair is Wushan Temple, located in Sancun, Gulai Town. It was built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. After several storms, it was rebuilt many times. In 1959, the temple was rebuilt on the old foundation. In 1996, the temple was rebuilt next to the original site. The value of the Shunwang Temple Fair is as follows: First, it deeply excavates and studies the culture of Great Shun and explores the source of Chinese civilization. The place name Gulai is closely related to the activities of Yu Shun. According to the "Historical Records", "Shun toured Kuaiji Mountain and the sky fell with good crops, so the place was named Gulai." Second, "the sky fell with good crops" proves that the world's rice originated from Gulai; third, Liang Zaiyan's "Ten Dao Zhi" said: "Shun cultivated here and the sky fell with good crops", and there is a saying that good crops are Torreya grandis. Fourth, inherit moral civilization and promote national spirit. Yu Shun's virtue, honesty, tolerance and filial piety are the concentrated embodiment of the excellent morality and culture of the Chinese nation. Yu Shun culture is the embodiment of the Chinese image, Chinese spirit and Chinese culture. Emperor Shun is the cultural ancestor of the Chinese nation. Since Dayu, worshiping Emperor Shun has become an important aspect of sacrificial activities. The successful holding of the Shunwang Temple Fair in Gulai Town represents the Gulai people's admiration for moral role models and their yearning for a harmonious society. It has important historical and practical significance. "Shunwang Temple Fair" was selected into the sixth batch of Shaoxing City's intangible cultural heritage list in November 2015.
