Ningbo Peasant Painting
Ningbo peasant paintings mainly include those from Xiangshan, Fenghua and Cixi. Xiangshan peasant paintings became famous throughout the country in the 1950s, and the first generation of peasant painters in New China, represented by Gao Miaolan, emerged. This is also a milestone in the development history of modern peasant paintings in my country. At present, the creative group represented by Xiangshan Maoyang Township peasant painters has inherited Gao Miaolan's excellent peasant painting tradition and has become one of the mainstream teams of Ningbo peasant painting creation. Fenghua peasant paintings (modern folk paintings) originated from folk Danqing paintings and were widely circulated in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Since the 1950s and 1960s, this type of painting has been inherited and developed. After the reform and opening up, Fenghua peasant paintings have gradually moved from propaganda paintings to appreciation folk paintings. At present, the main authors are local farmers, teachers, cadres, workers, entrepreneurs and craftsmen. In 1988, Fenghua was named "National Hometown of Modern Folk Painting" by the Ministry of Culture. Cixi peasant paintings fully reflect the wisdom of local farmers in terms of conception, composition, modeling, outlining, and coloring. In terms of composition, it breaks the balance and has a natural and interesting style. The Ministry of Culture once named Cixi as the "Hometown of Modern Folk Painting" in China.
