🎧  Listen to Introduction

Pizhou peasant paintings emerged in the early 1950s. It was the earliest peasant painting village in the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The first peasant painting in the country was born here. Pizhou peasant paintings are also the fourth batch of intangible cultural heritage protection projects in Jiangsu Province. In 1958, the People's Daily reported in detail on Pizhou peasant paintings, and in the same year it was designated as a mural county by the state. Pizhou peasant paintings use a variety of artistic techniques such as exaggeration, abstraction, and deformation, with full composition and strong decorative colors, showing elegant and clumsy aesthetic tastes, and showing the spirit of striving for progress in peasant paintings in the new era. Pizhou peasant paintings have been selected for many provincial and national activities such as the National Excellent Peasant Painting Exhibition, the New Era Chinese Peasant Painting and Calligraphy Hometown Fine Products Jinjing Exhibition, the National Civilized Practice Volunteer Service Project and the Fifth Jiangsu Volunteer Service Exchange Conference, and have won many awards. Entering the new era, Pizhou peasant paintings continue to innovate, and in a form that the masses like to see and hear, they play an important role in major activities such as creating civilized cities, becoming a bright business card for the new Pizhou in the new era.
