Peasant paintings (Sheyang peasant paintings) are traditional art projects in the fourth batch of representative projects of Jiangsu provincial intangible cultural heritage. Sheyang is one of the first batch of "Chinese Folk Culture and Art (Peasant Paintings) Hometowns" named by the Ministry of Culture of China, and peasant paintings are listed in the Jiangsu Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Peasant paintings have become a major characteristic brand of Sheyang that is well-known at home and abroad. They have been exhibited in countries and regions such as the United States, Austria and the United Nations Headquarters for more than 20 times. More than 800 works have been exhibited and won awards in national mainstream peasant painting exhibitions and competitions, and have been rated as Jiangsu Province's Foreign Exchange Demonstration Base and Provincial Foreign Exchange Demonstration Project. The peasant paintings that exude the fragrance of the earth, with rich and full picture composition, bright and beautiful colors and warm and unrestrained expression methods, allow the party members and cadres who come to visit to receive clean education in a subtle way. Wu Gangyu, secretary of the Sheyang County Party Committee, said that this peasant painting exhibition will be used as an opportunity to further strengthen the responsibility of managing and governing the Party, continue to strengthen the construction of high-quality clean government culture, actively guide Party members and cadres to respect morality and integrity, take responsibility and work hard, promote the integration of not daring to be corrupt, not being able to be corrupt, and not wanting to be corrupt, and solidly promote the extension of comprehensive and strict governance of the Party to the grassroots level, and continuously consolidate the political ecology of clean and upright atmosphere. Sheyang peasant paintings have a history of inheritance for hundreds of years. In the early Ming Dynasty, the ancestors of the immigrants in Sheyang who were "dispersed by Hongwu" painted kitchen gods on the salt stoves and auspicious patterns on the walls, praying for peace and good fortune and yearning for a better life. In the late Qing Dynasty, Zhang Jian, the top scholar, reclaimed wasteland and promoted literature in Sheyang, which played a positive role in the inheritance of Sheyang peasant paintings. Sheyang peasant paintings are strongly stylized and full of a strong breath of life. The bold and exaggerated deformation of their images reflects a natural, lively, romantic, naive, positive and bright style. Peasant paintings have both the characteristics of abstract paintings and the innocent and naive imagination of children's paintings. It is the individual feelings of the peasant painters that form the alternative language of their painting art, making it full of oriental characteristics and mysterious charm.
