Peasant paintings have a long history in Xiang'an. They originated from traditional folk murals and are a kind of folk art passed down by folk artists from generation to generation. They mainly include auspicious patterns such as Buddha pictures, gods, heavenly generals, arhats, dragons and phoenixes. The murals mainly include ancient comic strips such as The Romance of the Gods, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Journey to the West. In the 1950s and 1960s, Xiang'an farmers formed unique peasant paintings with rich colors and bright and cheerful artistic language based on traditional folk art murals.
